EMAIL: WEEK 16 - Temple day, New York City & Hispanic Culture :)

WRITTEN: November 14, 2016

Hey Momma,

This week went by really fast!

Monday was pday as usual. I got to write all my emails and play some ball. Other than that, not much more.
Tuesday we had zone meeting in union city (like a 20-25 min drive). We did some fun activities, talked about the standard of truth. It's a pretty awesome statement.

"The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressingpersecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purpose of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done." -Joseph Smith

Such an awesome quote in such a perfect time. We all know that Tuesday was Election Day, let's just say it was a pretty stressfully day for a lot of the members here in our ward (all of them are Hispanic). A lot of them are not fans of trump for many reasons, lots of them are passionate Hillary supporters so it was pretty interesting haha.

Wednesday we knocked an area by our place. Didn't find any Hispanics though:( There are usually a few things that will give it away if Hispanics live there.
#1 if they have Christmas lights on all year long
#2 candles in windows
#3 Mary everywhere! Statues, stickers, paintings...
#4 you see boxes of Corona and you hear karaoke being blasted
#5 star of Gabriel on their front door
#6 cars with mixed matched parts. Doors, hoods, bumpers, etc...

There are a couple more but I can't remember right now.
Hispanics are so awesome!😂

Oh and Trump won! Most of our members that we talked to said that they were packing their bags and getting ready to move out😂 they were all joking but they weren't super happy about the results. It got pretty crazy around here and NYC. We heard there were a bunch of protests and stuff like that.

Thursday we had service and after we went to the English elders apartment for some lunch. The English elders are pretty awesome, they give us a few referrals a week from people they run into.

Friday was temple day!!!
Oh man I love the temple! I was so excited! The temple is such a beacon of light in this dark and scary world. I wish that the whole world could feel the peace and comfort I feel in the temple. There is to much chaos and craziness. The manhattan temple up in New York City is soooo cool! Outside there's horns and busses, sirens, and lots of loud sounds but when you walk into the temple you can't hear a thing, it's like you put on noise-canceling headphones. Getting the whole zone together and going to the temple was so much fun. After we all walked around and got some food. On our way to the subway we walked down the same street we stayed on when we were here during spring break! It felt super weird cause it felt like I was just there last month😂 it was so much fun! After the temple trip we had an exchange. Elder Findlay (Elder Meeks companion) from the Bayonne area (just south of ours) came up and stayed with me. Elder Findlay loves to rock🤘. He got here one transfer before me, so we are both pretty new. He had a lot of fun. We happened to have appointments with members that love to rock to so he had an opportunity to jam out a for a few min before we were on our way! We had three meal appointments all after 5! It was quite a shock for him cause he never gets fed in his area. I had the privilege to stretch him out a little bit haha. We had fun.

Saturday we switched back, did some weekly planing and then tried by some more members. We stoped by this one family that we haven't been able to meet with. They were home and they let us in. The father is an Elders quorum teacher. Awesome family. They were sad they didn't have any food ready for us but they gave us pancakes to take home so that was bueno.

Sunday was awesome as always. We had a really good lesson in elders quorum, we talked about the faith of a testimony. I learned a lot from that lesson. After church we ran to a members house really quick to give her the sacrament. She can't make it to church because she takes care of her mom who is 105 years old and has Alzheimer's. When ever we go over there we always sing some hymns and the mom always sings with us. She loves it when we sing.

Other than all that my week has been great! On to the next week! It's crazy, I'm almost done with training!
Thanks for all your prayers!

Love, Elder Marz
