Man has it been a hot, sweaty, humid, and wet week!
Monday we did our laundry, emails, and shopping, an we went to the beach for a little bit, caught some cool looking crabs! Later we had some appointments with the members and an appointment with out investigator Karen. She's from Venezuela and she's super cool. I don't know her super well but from what I can tell she's really interested in changing her life.
Tuesday was district meeting. I gave a training on faith and how faith leads to repentance. We dissected Alma 34 which is a super bomb chapter about faith and repentance! We met with one of our investigators whose name is Romona and she's from the Dominican Republic. She almost died when I started speaking Dominican Spanish, talking about all of their food and the things they say there and when I told her I was from a specific town that is known for how many American-Dominicans there are. She totally believed me!π
Wednesday we went to service at a Salvation Army, packing plastic bags full of food for the hungry and homeless. After we had a few appointments with members but then we had an appointment with one of our investigators. His name is Ayendy (Andy, one with the Afro type hair). He's like 14 years old and from the Dominican Republic. Super cool kid. Really wants some peace in his life but he finds it really hard will all the things happening in his life. Later we had to help a lady move out of an apartment that's in our building, she's being evicted π¬.
Thursday we had our last Book of Mormon conference call with President Taggart. It was kinda crazy cause it feel like just yesterday when I first came to the mission and I had my first interview with him but now he's going home. It's just so crazy how fast time goes by! I'll miss him but I know President and sister Hess will do amazing. The rest of the day we did some planning and had an appointment with one of the bishops counselors and his family. And then we knocked for a good bit.
Friday we had service at the Salvation Army packing more bags. Made a cake for some members that helped us with that lady that was getting evicted. Then we had an appointment with a member. And for a good chunk of the day we helped a member move and we only had a family van so it was trip after trip after trip.... it was long! We had an appointment with a member who has been inactive for years cause she didn't know there was a church here! She wants her two kids to be baptized so we are teaching them right now.
Saturday we helped again with the move for a few more hours. We had some set appointments but they all fell through so we went by some members and some of our investigators. All day it was just pouuuurrrring! We were basically breaking the rules cause it felt like we were swimming haha. We weren't even mad though, it felt sooo good! We just wrapped up all of our stuff in plastic bags and we were all set! It made me think a lot about perspective. Sometimes God gives us blessings and we don't see them as blessing because of our perspective, but we have to change the way we look at it so we can see it as a blessing. You know it's just like fishing (you'll have to bear with meπ) you can't always tell that there's fish in a river just by looking at the horizon, sometimes we got to change our perspective and get a different view somewhere higher up so we can see if there is fish! π£ Just food for thought! Haha
Sunday was awesome! Fast Sundays are my favorites. All the young men bore their testimonies and it was pretty powerful. They all just got back from camp on Saturday and listening to all the experiences they had kinda took me back to the days when I went to scout camp, so many things learned and many spiritual experiences. Cherished memories for sure! After church we had a meeting and at the same time the other elders in our ward; Elder Meek and Elder Jensen had a baptism. We did a lot of finding in the afternoon. It was soooo hot! We had an appointment with a member and another appointment with Ayendy.
Monday was not our pday! It got moved to today for the Fourth of July. We can be out later tonight to watch the fireworks as long as we are with a member or investigator. It was kinda weird cause when we passed by the members they all looked at us pretty weird cause they thought it was our day off haha. We found two new investigators! We were knocking on a door of a former investigator who hasn't had contact with the missionaries for quite a while, she was pretty happy to see us. We went inside and taught her and her aunt the restoration! Looking pretty good for a Monday! Later we ate at a less actives home and got to know them better. The oldest daughter want to go on a mission so we answered a lot of questions that she had. After we went to the beach cause the city was doing fireworks off of a barge so went to talk to people. The weather was really nice and the sunset was really pretty! I sure miss Dover but I do know that I'm supposed be here in Perth Amboy right now!
Wow well that's what my very long week looked like. I know it's only gonna get hotter!
Have an amazing week!
Love,
Elder Marz
